Rangasthalam Review: Story & Performances
The story of the movie revolves around a village named Rangasthalam. In the
opening scene, we saw Chittibabu (Charan) was running the bi-cycle very
fast, before reaching out to MLA Dakshina Murthy’s(Prakash Raj) car, a truck
from the opposite side hits the car.
Rangasthalam village is under the grip of President Phanindra Bhupathi
(Babu), a ruthless man with the power to suppress anyone’s voice going
against him. He provides loans to the villagers and takes high-interest
rates.
Chittibabu (Charan) a partially deaf but loved by the villagers, earns his
daily through watering irrigational fields. The watering motor is owned by
Kolli Rangamma(Anasuya Bharadwaj), whom he calls Atta (Aunt).
He loves his parents and elder brother Kumar Babu (Aadi), who was staying
in Dubai but came back to the village. After watching Ramalakshmi(Samantha
Akkineni) for the very first time, Chittibabu falls in love with her. The
problem arises when Kumar Babu decides to go against the president and
filled up the election nomination form.
Sukumar who has already directed some blockbuster movies like Allu Arjun
starrer Arya & Arya 2,
Mahesh Babu
starrer 1: Nenokkadine, NTR Jr. starrer Nannaku Prematho, didn’t
disappoint the audiences this time also. His writing and direction deserve
special mention here. His upcoming directorial movie Pushpa is with the
stylish star Allu Arjun.
Devi Sri Prasad once again came up with a solid background score.
Ram Charan is the heart of the Rangasthalam movie. His role was certainly
a challenging one but he switches in it effortlessly. It is one of the best
performances in his career to date.
Samantha’s de-glamorized but effective role was highly impressive. Anasuya
Bharadwaj was also good during her little screen presence. Aadhi Pinisetty,
Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj also shine in their respective roles.
What is good about this movie?
Sukumar’s brilliant writing and direction, Devi Sri Prasad’s magical
composition, and spectacular performances from Ram Charan, Aadhi Pinisetty,
Samantha Prabhu, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj are the highlights of this
period drama movie.
What is bad about this movie?
The plot almost looked like another regular revenge drama except for the
twist in the climax.
