Sunflower Season 1 Review: Story & Performances
ZEE5 has been consistently providing diverse content to its audiences, from movies like Salman Khan's Radhe and web series like Qubool Hai 2.0 featuring Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti, to Amit Sadh's Jeet Ki Zidd.
Sunflower Season 1 marks director Vikas Bahl's debut on the OTT platform. The story revolves around the murder of Mr. Raj Kapoor (Ashwin Kaushal) in a Mumbai housing society called Sunflower.
Inspector S. Digendra (Ranvir Shorey) and Sub Inspector Chetan Tambe (Girish Kulkarni) investigate the murder, leading them to Sonu Singh (Sunil Grover), a friendly salesman in the society.
Mr. Ahuja (Mukul Chadda), a lecturer, has a short temper, while his wife Mrs. Ahuja (Radha Bhatt) is a housewife. Dilip Iyer (Ashish Vidyarthi) is aspiring to be the chairman of the Sunflower society, working hard to keep everyone happy and safe.
The death of Raj Kapoor leaves the residents frightened and concerned. During the initial investigation, Mr. Ahuja and Sonu Singh emerge as prime suspects.
Unlike most mystery thrillers that keep the audience guessing about the murderer, writer and director Vikas Bahl reveals the killer at the beginning.
While Sunil Grover delivers a great performance, Ranvir Shorey, Girish Kulkarni, Mukul Chadda, and Ashish Vidyarthi also put in decent performances. Sunflower's execution is slow-paced and fails to utilize the cast's talents, which is surprising given Bahl's track record of directing hits like Queen, Shaandaar, and Super 30.
Overall, the weak script, lack of suspense, and execution of Sunflower Season 1 can make it a bit boring to watch.
What's good about Sunflower Season 1?
Sunil Grover's acting is the only standout feature of the series.
What's bad about Sunflower Season 1?
The weak script, lack of suspense, and slow-paced execution can make the series dull and unengaging.
