Hungama 2 Review: Story, Performances & Analysis
After the grand success of Hungama which was released in 2003, starring
Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Rimi Sen in the lead roles, Priyadarshan
is back with the sequel of this comedy movie. Hungama 2 is the remake of
Priyadarshan’s Malayalam movie Minnaram starring Mohanlal, Shobana, and Thilakan.
Many of us might be worried about whether watching “Hungama” is mandatory
before watching Hungama 2, but let me assure you that the sequel is not the
continuation of the original one.
The story of the movie revolves around the young and charming Akash
(Meezaan Jaffrey) who is engaged to Simran. But, suddenly one day his
girlfriend Vaani (Pranitha Subhash) arrived at their house with a child and
claimed Akash to be the father of the child.
As per Akash, she left him 3 years back without informing him anything. Now he
needs to prove that he is not lying in front of his father Colonel Kapoor
(Ashutosh Rana). Failing to do so, his marriage will be canceled with Simran
who is the daughter of Colonel Kapoor’s friend Manasvit Bajaj(Manoj
Joshi).
Akash took help from his colleague Anjali (Shilpa Shetty) and canteen
manager Popat (Rajpal Yadav) but nothing worked. Anjali is the wife of lawyer
Radheshyam Tiwari(Paresh Rawal) who suspects her wife of having an affair with
Akash.
Can Akash prove that he is not the father of the child? Who is the actual father of the child? Why Vaani left Akash 2 years ago? Watching Hungama 2 on Disney+Hotstar will help with these answers only.
Neither Meezaan Jaffrey nor Pranitha Subhash made any lasting impact with
their performances. It was absolutely surprising watching Shilpa Shetty in
such a role where she has very little scope to show what she is capable
of.
The predictable narrative, lack of romance, and comic timing have
disappointed a lot. Priyadarshan failed to recreate the magic of “Hungama”
in “Hungama 2”.
Aftab Shivdasani-Rimi Sen-
Akshaye Khanna
starrer movie with Nadeem Shravan’s music was a complete package of
entertainment. The only thing Priyadarshan did right was by bringing Paresh
Rawal, Tiku Talsania, and Rajpal Yadav together.
Paresh Rawal
as lawyer Radheshyam Tiwari &
Rajpal Yadav
as canteen manager Popat were convincing. Tiku Talsania as family factotum
Nandan and Johnny Lever as Tutor Gagan Chandra D’Costa also provided their
valuable contribution during their given screen presence.
Even the music was also forgetful. The remake of the super hit song “Chura
Ke Dil Mera” track was also a disaster compared to the original track.
