Toofaan Movie Review: Story
Toofaan movie marks the second collaboration between Rakeysh Omprakash
Mehra & Farhan Akhtar. Their maiden collaboration was in the movie
“Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” which was released in 2013.
The story of the movie revolves around Aziz Ali(Farhan Akhtar), a man from
Dongri who mainly works for a local gangster named Jaffar Bhai(Vijay Raaz).
He is accompanied by his friend Munna(Hussain Dalal). A Muhammad Ali video
given by his gym instructor inspired him to learn boxing from ace boxing
coach Nana Prabhu(Paresh Rawal).
Aziz got a little injured and went to a charity hospital where Dr. Ananya
(Mrunal Thakur) denied his treatment after listening to the reason behind
the wound. On their second meeting, he expressed his wish to Dr. Ananya to
become Bachchan of boxing if he gets a coach like Nana Prabhu.
Nana Prabhu initially did not show any interest in training him as he was a
Muslim guy but after watching his practice game, he changed his decision.
Aziz decided to focus completely on boxing, so he left Jaffar Bhai’s gang.
Through his hard work and dedication, he became his coach’s favourite
player.
He was named Toofaan by Nana. Slowly, Aziz and Ananya fell for each other.
Aziz Ali won the state championship defeating Dharmesh Patil(DarshanKumar) in the final.
Toofaan Movie Review: Performance & Analysis
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra once again did not leave any stone unturned to make
Toofaan a worthy watch on Amazon Prime. Certainly, the collaboration between
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra & Farhan Akhtar created the magic again.
Farhan Akhtar’s body transformation during the first tournament and after
the end of his suspension period was quite inspiring. His performance was
exceptional. Mrunal Thakur delivered an extraordinary performance with the
ordinary looked character of Ananya.
Paresh Rawal
also provided a solid performance with Nana Prabhu character. Hussain Dalal
& Mohan Agashe also provided noteworthy performances during their given
screentime. One might think the reason for using talented actors like
Vijay Raaz
&
Supriya Pathak
as they were hardly given the scope to show their capabilities.
What Toofaan promises to offer?
Toofaan has action, romance, drama, emotions, and everything that a
commercial entertainer needs. The performances from the lead characters
& the music were highly impressive. The story of this sports drama was a
bit predictable, especially the boxing tournaments, and both finals. Also,
the focus shifted towards many other issues that might make you a bit
upset.
