Mandaar (2021) Review: Story, Analysis & Performances:
Dablu Bhai is ruling Gailpur with the help of his two trusted servants Mandaar & Bunka. Mandaar is married to Laili but his erectile dysfunction is the major barrier in the way of their becoming parents.
A mother, a son, and a pet cat were chosen in this series as the Three Witch of Macbeth. The old lady predicted that Mandaar would be the King of Gailpur.
After getting insulted by Dablu Bhai’s wife, Laili told Mandaar to kill Dablu Bhai and he did it. Things turned worse as the cop Muqaddar Mukherjee(Anirban Bhattacharya) witnessed him escaping after the incident.
How far Mandaar will go after killing Dablu Bhai? Will Muqaddar Mukherjee arrest him? Will He be crowned or is something worse awaiting him? You have to watch it on Hoichoi to get all these answers.
Debasish Mondal playing the titular role nailed it with the expressions and dialogue deliveries, and his on-screen chemistry with Sohini Sarkar was majestic.
Sohini Sarkar on the other hand probably delivered her career-best performance as Laili in this series till date. Anirban Bhattacharya excels as corrupted police officer Muqaddar Mukherjee.
Debesh Roy Choudhury, Sankar Debnath, Lokenath Dey, and Korak Samanta also provided good performances in their respective roles. Actor Sudeep Dhara has also delivered a noteworthy performance as Pedo.
Anirban Bhattacharya did not completely follow the story of Macbeth instead he added a few characters like his own and built it exactly the way he wanted which was the most challenging as well as highly impressive part of his directorial skills.
He also added a political angle beautifully to the plot. And I should not forget to mention that the best dialogue of the series was “Pod is Kopal, Kopal is pod”.
The brilliant execution of Mandaar was not surprising considering Anirban Bhattacharya’s directorial skills in plays where he has directed plays like Guru, Chowmatha, Udorniti, and Pontu Laha 2.0.
Subhadeep Guha’s background score and Sanglap Bhowmik’s editing also deserve a mention. Anirban Bhattacharya, the versatile actor has turned into a genius director. After starting the year with Mukhosh then Golondaaj, Rabindranath Ekhane Kokhono Khete Asenni, Byomkesh Season 7 & and now Mandaar, 2021 looks like one of the memorable years for Anirban Bhattacharya.
The trailer of this series hinted to us that we are going to witness something big on the Hoichoi platform. One of the main reasons for the high expectations from this web series was because Anirban Bhattacharya entered the director’s club with this Hoichoi world classic.
