Ekannoborti (2021) Review: Story, Performance & Analysis
Film director Abhradeep Dutta (Kaushik Sen) was looking for a spot to shoot his film and found the house of Mrs. Banerjee (Alokananda Roy) to be the perfect one. Mrs. Banerjee, who had to pay loan installments, was ready to allow them to shoot there taking 8 lahks from them which Production Manager Tinku(Biswanath Basu) had settled. She was reluctant to discuss this with her only daughter Malini Chatterjee (Aparajita Adhya) and grandchildren Shila (Sauraseni Maitra) and Pinky (Ananya Sen).
Malini Chatterjee’s husband(Sudip Mukherjee) was hospitalized due to an accident as he drove the car after getting drunk. He is involved in an extra-marital affair and is looking for a divorce.
Malini and her both children arrived at Mrs. Banerjee’s house to celebrate the Durga Puja which is held in their house every year. Shila is about to get married and she is trying to make her relationship better with her fiancé. Pinky is having an eating disorder, lacking confidence and self-esteem. As the story progresses we saw the happy and sad sides of every relationship as well as their, reuniting as a family.
Director Mainak Bhaumik never misses the chance to impress the audience in romantic drama and family drama-related movies and web series. If you have watched his previous movies and web series like Cheeni, Breakup Story, Generation Ami, Maradonar Juto, Ghare & Baire then you will find that he mainly scored high on well-written characters and strong performances. Ekannoborti is no exception in that respect. But a predictable story seemed the only reason that might leave you a bit unimpressed about this film.
Mainak Bhaumik deserves appreciation for the way he builds every relationship in this film. The background score by Savvy & the music composition by Prasener Dolbol were also praiseworthy especially the track Behaya by Lagnajita was too good.
Every time, the more we praise the performance of Aparajita Adhya, it seems very less. She is unmatched in the family drama genre. She was brilliant in every scene of Ekannoborti, especially in the emotional scenes. If we start talking about her best performances then Praktan, Mukherjee Dar Bou, Haami, Samantaral, Generation Ami, Goynar Baksho, Bela Seshe, and the list might go on.
Sauraseni Maitra as Shila was highly impressive. Her dialogue delivery, expressions, & screen presence are mind-blowing. She also featured in an important role in Ek Thi Begum Season 2. Her notable performances include Generation Ami, Byomkesh Gotro, and Lalbazaar.
Ananya Sen did a fantastic job as Pinky. She recently gave a good performance as a supporting cast in Gora web series. Sandipta Sen has a special appearance. Alakananda Ray, Kaushik Sen, Sawon Chakraborty, Sudip Mukherjee, Biswanath Basu, Gourab Roychoudhury also provided valuable contributions.
