Sundarbaner Vidyasagar (2022) Review: Story, Performance & Analysis
The story revolves around Kinkar Karmakar (Riddhi Sen) who is popularly known as Vidyasagar of Jibanpur due to some similarities with Vidyasagar including the date of birth. Kinkar’s father had high expectations of him & he was encouraging him to be the Pundit of the Sanskrit Language.
Kinkar obtained 42% marks in graduation which made his father as well as the whole family disappointed. During this tough time, Kinkar’s former tutor Bhuban Da(Loknath Dey) stood by his side & convinced him to accept the job of a Green Volunteer for the Forest Department.
Kinkar arrived at Kumirkhali, Sundarbans where he met Parboti(Ushasi Roy) & they became friends later. The rest of the story is about Kinkar’s struggle & finally exposing the culprits of Kumirkhali.
It is good to see Riddhi Sen choosing experimental scripts & more challenging characters. His character in Sundarbaner Vidyasagar is completely different than whatever he did earlier in his career. We already have seen some of his brilliant performances in movies like Nagarkirtan, Samantaral, Open tee bioscope, Vinci Da, etc. After an almost forgetful performance in his previous web series boyfriends and girlfriends, he has come back stronger to deliver a top-notch performance in Sundarbaner Vidyasagar.
Ushasi Roy as Parboti was fearless. Her fighting spirit against all odds & the efforts to make widows aware of the bad people like Makhan(Shankar Debnath) were highly appreciable.
Rupanjana Mitra as the adviser of the local Panchayat delivered a noteworthy performance. Other major contributions came from Shankar Debnath as Makhan, Loknath Dey as Bhuban Da, Doyel Roynandy as Pushpo, and Sudeep Dhara as Kinkar’s assistant Bipul & coincidentally all of them were also present in Anirban Bhattacharya’s Mandaar.
Director Korok Murmu succeeded in executing an enthralling drama but failed to utilize actors like Rupanjana Mitra & Ushasi Roy, as both of them deserved a better screen presence. Cinematographer Ramyadip Saha, Editor Pronoy Dasgupta, & music director Gaurab Chatterjee also deserve appreciation for their works.
Final Words
Sundarbaner Vidyasagar web series is about the journey of Kinkar Karmakar from Jibanpur to Kumirkhali. The story was quite predictable but some top-notch performances will keep you engaged. The climax looked a bit overdramatic but overall the series is an interesting watch if you like watching experimental series with a bit different concept.
