777 Charlie (2022) Review: Story, Performances & Analysis
The movie begins with a heartwarming message: "If you're lucky, a dog will come into your life, steal your heart, and change everything." In the opening scene, we see a Labrador manage to escape from the cruel breeder's cage and run as far as she can to save herself.
Dharma (played by Rakshit Shetty), a mechanic who works in a factory, leads a lonely, unfulfilling life due to a tragic past where he lost his parents and sister. He struggles to connect with others in the colony and follows the same monotonous routine every day, which includes visiting a nearby shop for cigarettes and idlis. The shop owner's wife advises him to quit smoking, but he brushes off her suggestion. However, she always adds an extra idli to his plate, which he throws away after eating two.
One day, the Labrador arrives in their colony and waits beside the dustbin outside Dharma's house when he throws the extra idli. The dog begins to follow him, which he dislikes at first. But when the Labrador gets severely injured due to an accident with a bike, Dharma steps up to help her, and their relationship starts to evolve.
To know how that one accident changed Dharma's life and his approach towards dogs, one must watch 777 Charlie.
777 Charlie marks Rakshit Shetty's return to the big screen after three years, following the success of his directorial debut, Ulidavaru Kandante. His performance in 777 Charlie is among his best yet, with his transformation from a heartless person to someone whose love and emotional attachment to Charlie, the Labrador, will tug at your heartstrings.
The movie's ability to keep the audience engaged throughout the beautiful relationship between Rakshit Shetty and Charlie is its strongest point. Sangeetha Sringeri delivers a convincing performance as the Animal Welfare Officer Devika, but the story could have benefited from more focus on her character. However, her performance in director Nagendra Prasad's romantic comedy Lucky Man is noteworthy.
Bobby Simha's cameo is fantastic and makes a great impact on the story's progression, while Raj B. Shetty's portrayal of Dr. Ashwin Kumar is commendable. Adhrika (Sharvari), the cute little girl in the movie, also delivers an impressive performance.
Director Kiranraj K. deserves appreciation for gifting us a film like 777 Charlie, which will make many people rethink their approach to animals. While we have seen several movies that depict the bond between humans and animals, 777 Charlie stands out for its ability to connect the audience with emotional scenes.
Pratheek Shetty's editing, Nobin Paul's music, and Arvind S. Kashyap's cinematography are other highlights of 777 Charlie.
In summary, 777 Charlie is an adventure comedy-drama film that features brilliant performances by Rakshit Shetty and Charlie, and Director Kiranraj K.'s excellent execution.
