Karnasubarner Guptodhon Review: Story, Performances & Analysis
Like the previous two versions of this franchise, Subarna Sen aka Sona Da (Abir Chatterjee) begins his search for the hidden treasure of Bengal this time at Karnasubarna which was once the capital of Gauda Kingdom when King Shashanka was ruling Bengal.
Abir aka Abirlal Roy (Arjun Chakraborty) and Jhinuk aka Jhinuk Majumdar (Ishaa Saha) are also going with Sona Da to explore the historical adventure at Karnasubarna. The story revolves around the obstacles they face during their journey of searching for the hidden treasure at Karnasubarna.
There are instances when one or two particular characters despite their less screen time impress us more than the lead characters. Karna Subarner Guptodhon is one such instance where the performances of Sourav Das and Rajatava Dutta were outstanding and you may wonder why their characters weren’t given more focus. I will say this is one area director Dhrubo Banerjee could have looked into.
The character of Sona Da has become popular in recent times only because of Abir Chatterjee. The way he portrays such a character at ease leaves us surprised.
If you look at the way Sourav Das is shaping him in the best possible way each and every character he portrays deserves a lot of appreciation. The saddest part is we don’t see him often in big-banner movies like Karnasubarner Guptodhon. I strongly believe that he has the potential to portray far better negative roles if he gets more opportunities.
There is very little to say about Rajatava Dutta, the versatile actor who has worked in more than 100 movies, and knows very well how to win the audience’s hearts. His character in Karnasubarner Guptodhon didn’t get enough screen time, yet he left a magical impression during that time.
Arjun Chakraborty and Ishaa Saha were convincing with their respective characters. Barun Chanda and Kinjal Nanda had very little scope in the script to shine with their performances.
Soumik Haldar’s cinematography & Bickram Ghosh’s music composition are the other areas that looked good. At times too much historical information impacts the flow of the narrative. Also, the editing of a few scenes after the interval was not up to the mark.
Final Words
Barring a few ignorable flaws, the adventure thriller Karnasubarner Guptodhon is good for a one-time watch with some outstanding performances and music.
