Bhediya Movie (2022) Review: Story, Performances & Analysis
Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan) a road construction contractor arrives at Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh with his cousin Janardan aka JD (Abhishek Banerjee) to construct a road through the forest. He got the assignment from his boss (Saurabh Shukla) who was more than happy to assign the task to him.
A local friend Jobin (Paalin Kabaak) helped them coordinate with local people in Ziro. When the local people denied signing the papers they took the help of Panda (Deepak Dobriyal) to close the issue.
During their visit to the local forest, a wolf bites Bhaskar. They went to the local veterinarian Anika (Kriti Sanon) to treat Bhaskar. At times his body transforms into a wolf which his life as well as the lives of his near & dear ones. How he gets rid of this forms the rest of the story.
It’s been a long since we received a fine performance from Varun Dhawan. Jugjugg jeeyo did well at the box office but fans probably wanted to see him in some serious roles like Badlapur & October where we have seen him delivering more mature performances.
Before Bhediya Varun Dhawan’s last 3 movies Coolie No 1, a cameo appearance in Antim: The Final Truth, & Jugjugg jeeyo failed to leave a long-lasting impression in audiences’ hearts. More precisely, we have seen another spectacular performance from Varun Dhawan in Bhediya.
Bhediya is certainly one of the best horror comedy movies we have seen in the last couple of years in Bollywood. Director Amar Kaushik is gifting us the perfect kind of horror comedy. First with Stree & now with Bhediya, he is getting a clearer idea about the audience’s expectations from horror comedy films.
Abhishek Banerjee is a part of both Stree & Bhediya, & delivered brilliant performances in both of these movies but he has a better screen time this time and he utilized that perfectly. His dialogue deliveries, comic timing, & expressions might leave you stunned at times.
The story begins with Sharad Kelkar’s narrative to his child which gave us a hint of the engaging narrative we are going to get. But post-interval the pace of the narrative got a bit slow; a few songs were added unnecessarily which do not have any impact on the narrative.
Kriti Sanon’s role also looks interesting and she delivered a convincing performance. Deepak Dobriyal and Paalin Kabaak justified their characters. Saurabh Shukla remained unutilized.
Two hilarious comedy scenes I would like to mention here:
The first one was when Abhishek Banerjee and Paalin Kabaak tried to make create a sound like wolves howling just to hear back the same howling from a wolf. After a few attempts, they didn’t succeed but suddenly Himesh Reshammiya’s Tera Suroor song did the trick for them.
And the second one was obviously when Varun Dhawan was attempting to be a wolf. Also, the opening scene where Varun Dhawan tries to interact with Saurabh Shukla’s dog was a good one.
The background music and composition by Sachin-Jigar played a big here also the VFX was spectacular & finally, the twist at the end also deserves a mention.
Final Words:
Director Amar Kaushik’s Bhediya is an engaging horror comedy that has many good aspects like performances, storytelling, writing, direction, music, & VFX in it which will give you an enjoyable experience.
