Double XL Movie Review: Story
The movie begins with Rajshree Trivedi (Qureshi) from Meerut dreaming of a dance sequence with the Indian Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. Now before she could even start enjoying the dance she was awakened by her mother (Alka Badola Kaushal) who has nothing much to worry about in life except her daughter’s marriage as she has crossed 30.
Rajshree is always supported by her father (Kanwaljit Singh) and grandmother (Shobha Khote) while she talks about fulfilling her dream of becoming a television sports presenter. Her overweight is one of the barriers to making her dream career.
Fashion designer Saira Khanna (Sinha) was quite happy in life with his boyfriend and a supportive brother (Sachin Shroff). But the day she came to know about her boyfriend’s other affair she was hurt. She is often tagged as an overweight woman who lacks uniqueness and great designs as a Fashion designer. What happens when Rajshree meets Saira forms the rest of the story.
Performances & Analysis
Huma Qureshi delivers a top-notch performance but she has the potential to deliver better performances than what she delivers here. Last year her performances in Bell Bottom & Maharani were highly appreciated by audiences.
Once again Sonakshi Sinha failed to leave a good impact with her performance, though her character was written poorly she was reluctant to come out and deliver her best.
Mahat Raghavendra did well in his debut but given a bit more focus on his character development would have been great. Also, an actor like Kanwaljit Singh remained unutilized throughout the movie.
Alka Badola Kaushal as Rajshree’s mother did a fantastic job. Zaheer Iqbal’s character looked completely wasted. Jimmy Shergill had nothing much to do as he appeared for a cameo in two scenes only. Sachin Shroff who has already made a good impact with his performance in Aashram, provided good support as Saira’s brother.
Mudassar Aziz and Sasha Singh’s writing failed to meet the expectations of audiences on such a good concept. Writer Mudassar Aziz already gave us an idea about his mediocre writing in movies like Happy Bhag Jayegi, Pati Patni Aur Woh, & Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi. Director Satram Ramani’s faulty execution was another reason the movie looked like an ordinary one even after having a great concept.
Apart from poor writing and faulty execution, some tasteless jokes and a few unacceptable dialogues may leave you disappointed at times.
Final Words:
Double XL looks okay in terms of the good concept and a few good performances from Huma Qureshi, Mahat Raghavendra, & Alka Badola Kaushal but the poor writing and faulty execution might bore you at times.
