Cirkus (2022) Movie Review: Story
Doctor Roy Jamnadas (Murali Sharma) from Jamnadas Orphanage wanted to prove his theory in front of the world. The theory that says “only upbringing matters not bloodlines”. He decided to experiment with two pairs of orphans twins when he came to know from Joy Jamnadas (Uday Tikekar) that they found two good families who are ready to adopt those twins.
Both the parents decided to name them after two Jamnadas, Roy (Ranveer Singh) and Joy (Varun Sharma). So, one pair of Roy & Joy goes with a family in Bangalore and another one is in Ooty.
Both pairs Roy and Joy grew up and Roy Jamnadas is connected with both families. Mala (Pooja Hegde), the wife of Roy in Ooty is also a writer. Roy in Bangalore is dating his girlfriend Bindu (Jacqueline Fernandez) who is not liked by her father Rai Bahadur (Sanjay Mishra). Will Doctor Roy Jamnadas be able to prove his theory correct?
Cirkus (2022) Review: Performances & Analysis
If we talk about Rohit Shetty’s best comedy-drama till date then it’s Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006 starring Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Rimi Sen, Paresh Rawal and the worst one till date is obviously Cirkus in 2022.
The problem is that every time he is coming up with a comedy-drama maybe he is just trying to make another Golmaal which is not happening and he ends up making an average comedy drama. You will see most of his recent comedy dramas after Golmaal have almost 90% similar casting which is still okay if you have a good script.
Rohit Shetty tried everything from adding the old Bollywood movies flavour with a few hit old songs in the background in a few scenes to casting as many as possible actors from Bollywood but due to the complex narrative and multiple pointless subplots, nothing worked. It was a complete waste of talents like Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee, Johnny Lever, Sidhhartha Jadhav, Mukesh Tiwari, & Brijendra Kala.
Another surprising fact about Cirkus is the presence of Ranveer Singh who is known for choosing the best kind of script & portrays even the most challenging characters at ease. The movies like Padmaavat, Gully Boy, 83, Bajirao Mastani, & Band Baaja Baaraat are enough to make you understand the kind of actor he is and the kind of script of chooses.
2022 is not the kind of Year the promising star might have expected. Both of his movies in 2022, Jayeshbhai Jordaar & Cirkus are forgetful. Let’s see what he offers us next year in his upcoming romantic drama “Rocky aur Rani ki prem Kahani” co-starring Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, Parambrata Chatterjee, Shabana Azmi, & Tota Roy Chowdhury, and directed by Karan Johar.
So, you might be wondering if there is anything good about this Rohit Shetty- Ranveer Singh’s maiden collaboration, yes there is. Murli Sharma’s character and Deepika Padukone’s cameo were good only and the reason was obvious that both of them were not engaged in those mindless, forcefully created comedy scenes. In the last scene of the movie where we saw five children come to stay at the Jamnadas Orphanage named Gopal, Laxman, Madhav, Laxman, & Lucky and I hope you understood who these popular characters are.
Final Words:
Director Rohit Shetty’s comedy-drama Cirkus lacks- a good script, good performances, good comic timings, good music, and almost everything that can make you laugh and feel happy investing 139 minutes at the theatre.
