Uttwaran (2022) Bengali Movie Review: Story
The story takes us to the time when The Prime Minister of our country declared a complete lockdown for 21 days due to the pandemic.
Rudra Mallik (Ankush Hazra) introduces himself as a History Teacher at Kiridi to Doctor Bishnu Sen (Kaushik Ganguly) when he was asked about his identity after he hides at Bishnu’s house to save himself from the Police.
Bishnu is a kind-hearted person accompanied by a nurse (Saayoni Ghosh), Chhotka & a young boy (Rwitobroto Mukherjee) who is mute. How the lives of these people will get affected by the arrival of Rudra? What is Rudra’s real identity?
Uttwaran (2022) Bengali Movie Review: Performances & Analysis
This is director Indraadip Dasgupta and actor Kaushik Ganguly’s 3rd collaboration after Kedara and Bismillah and the director should be appreciated for bringing the best every time from the versatile actor.
Kaushik Ganguly delivers a top-notch performance as Doctor Bishnu Sen. Some of the scenes like the one when after the argument with Rudra, he admits to his Chhokta that he imprisoned himself within the 4 walls and always escaped whenever he feared danger, or when he indirectly told the nurse about not disliking Rudra were heart touching.
Ankush Hazra finally got a character that will help him explore more challenging characters like this in the coming days. The depth of his character Rudra Mallik was well understood during his argument with Bishnu Sen when he talks about revolution and then during the conversation with the nurse.
Rwitobroto Mukherjee is also a praiseworthy casting in this movie. The way he portrayed the character of a mute at ease says a lot about the potential he has.
Saayoni Ghosh looked convincing during her given screen time. Apart from the solid performances, the camera work and the background score will catch your attention. It is good to see Director Indraadip Dasgupta trying new concepts every time with his directorial projects. Uttwaran looked a bit slow and the narrative lost pace quite a few times.
This is director Indraadip Dasgupta’s 3rd movie in 2022 after Bismillah, Agantuk but none of these 3 movies looked anywhere near to his directorial debut film Kedara from every aspect.
Final Words:
Director Indraadip Dasgupta’s Uttwaran is good for a one-time watch due to the excellent performances, camera work, and background score.
