Hoichoi's Indubala Bhater Hotel (2023) Review: Story & Performances

The plot of "Indubala Bhater Hotel" centers around Indubala (Subhashree Ganguly), who was married at a young age and moved to Kolkata from Bangladesh with her abusive husband Ratanlal Mullick (Pratik Dutta). After Ratanlal's death, Indubala opened a hotel named Indubala Bhater Hotel. The rest of the story follows Indubala's struggles and journey as she becomes the owner of one of the most popular hotels, winning customers' hearts with her delicious food.

The web series is based on the novel by renowned writer Kallol Lahiri and produced by Maansi Entertainment. It marks the OTT debut of actress Subhashree Ganguly, who delivers a spectacular performance. The first poster of Indubala Bhater Hotel generated a lot of hype, and the teaser and trailer raised excitement among audiences to see Subhashree Ganguly in a new avatar.

Subhashree Ganguly's body language and dialogue delivery accurately convey the character's age, and her emotional scenes are particularly moving. Her performance in "Indubala Bhater Hotel" outshines her previous work, such as "Parineeta."

The series marks a significant transformation in Subhashree Ganguly's acting career. Before "Parineeta," she appeared mainly in glamorous roles in films like Boss, Boss 2: Back to Rule, Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay, Khoka 420, Challenge, Romeo, Paran Jai Jaliya Re, Abhimaan, and Game. However, after "Parineeta," she appeared mainly in non-glamorous characters in films such as "Habji Gabji," Dharmajuddha, "Bismillah," "Boudi Canteen," and "Doctor Bakshi."

Director Debaloy Bhattacharya deserves credit for presenting Subhashree Ganguly in this new avatar, which audiences have embraced. He also expertly captures Indubala's bond with her husband Ratanlal Mullick, her mother-in-law (played by Mithu Chakraborty), Dhanada (played by Debopratim Dasgupta), Lachmi (played by Sneha Chatterjee), and Vlogger Sanchari (played by Angana Roy).

Amit Chatterjee's soulful music composition is a perfect complement to the narrative, making each scene more powerful. The camera work, lighting, and set design are also impressive in this web series directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya.

The series beautifully depicts the pain Indubala experiences due to being separated from her roots and the absence of her loved ones during crucial moments in her life. Angana Roy's portrayal of Vlogger Sanchari is convincing, and her relationship with Indubala is presented in a way that evokes the connection between a grandmother and granddaughter.

Debopratim Dasgupta as Dhanada, Sneha Chatterjee as Lachmi, and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay in a cameo all deliver outstanding performances. Parijat Chaudhuri as young Indu, Debdutta Raha as Monirul, and Rahul Banerjee as Indubala's son provide good support.

In summary, there are three reasons why you should watch "Indubala Bhater Hotel" on Hoichoi: Subhashree Ganguly's stunning performance, Debaloy Bhattacharya's brilliant execution, and Amit Chatterjee's soulful music composition.
