Rani Mukerji Starring Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway Review: Story & Performances

Debika Chatterjee (Rani Mukerji) lives in Stavanger of Norway with her husband Aniruddha Chatterjee (Anirban Bhattacharya) and their children Shubha & Shuchi. Two executives from Velfred Sia (Kärt Tammjärv) & Matilda (Britta Soll) captured the children Shubha & Shuchi on their final meeting at Mrs. Chatterjee’s house.

There was a domestic violence case against Aniruddha and during the observation process of the Velfred team, they found Debika & Aniruddha incapable to handle children. Unable to accept the fact that her children will be kept away from her, Debika starts fighting to get them back. Will Debika be able to get back her children?

There is no doubt that Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway is a Rani Mukerji show. She makes you feel the pain she has gone through & the way she lives the character of Debika often reminds us as if we are watching Sagarika Chakraborty fighting the real battle.

We have seen Rani Mukerji appearing in less number of films and choosing experimental characters lately. During the 2010s decade, she appeared only in 8 films: No One Killed Jessica, Aiyyaa, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within, Bombay Talkies, Mardaani, Hichki, Zero, Mardaani 2 & after that Bunty Aur Babli 2 in 2021.

Actor-director Anirban Bhattacharya making his Bollywood debut with Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway looks okay as Aniruddha Chatterjee. He has impressed audiences earlier with his acting and directorial skills in Bengali various films and web series including Gumnaami, Dracula Sir, Shahjahan Regency, Ballabhpurer Roopkotha, Dwitiyo Purush, Bibaho Obhijaan, Golondaaj, Ghawre Bairey Aaj, Byomkesh web series, & Mandaar.

The start of this year was certainly not as expected for him with Mithye Premer Gaan but Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway is showing some positive signs at the box office & he will be featured in the upcoming film Abar Bibaho Obhijaan.

Final Words:

Rani Mukerji wins hearts mostly in the emotional scenes, Anirban Bhattacharya looks okay in his Bollywood debut, and Soumya Mukherjee looks okay in the cameo. The execution of a few emotional scenes was very bad and the editing could have been far better by reducing the runtime by another 15-20 minutes. Director Ashima Chibber perfectly utilizes Rani Mukerji to bring the best out of her but she forgot to work a bit more on the storyline which could have helped in better execution.
