Sudipto Roy directorial Byomkesh O Pinjrapol which is the 8th season of Byomkesh, based on Chiriyakhana by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay premiered on Hoichoi on 7th April 2023.
Byomkesh O Pinjrapol Review: Story & Performances
The story takes us to the colony owned by former judge Nishanath Sen (Babu Dutta Roy). Most of the people at the Pinjrapol colony are former criminals. Recently someone is throwing various motor parts at Nishanath’s colony which reminds him of an instance when he gave a death sentence to a criminal named Laal Singh. Laal Singh got 12 years jail term after appealing to the high court and he is free now after spending 12 years in jail.
Nishanath is suspecting Laal Singh as the culprit behind throwing these motor parts at his colony. He appointed Byomkesh Bakshi (Anirban Bhattacharya) to investigate this. Byomkesh along with Ajit (Bhaswar Chatterjee) visited the colony to see the people there. Suddenly, Nishanath told Byomkesh to stop the investigation but he came after hearing the news of Nishanath’s death. Who killed Nishanath?
The plot development including the backstory of a few characters was presented beautifully. The sound design, set design, and background score by Shubhadeep Guha perfectly complemented the narration.
Unlike the other season of Byomkesh, director Sudipto Roy decided here not to present Byomkesh as a brilliant Sleuth instead he presented the character with a bit of humor who is disturbed by constipation and that is something that makes this series unique and different from other Sleuth series.
Bhaswar Chatterjee as Ajit looks brilliant and his bonding with Byomkesh also looks good here. Ridhima Ghosh as Satyabati looks okay but she did not get enough screen time.
Babu Dutta Roy as Nishanath, Soumik Maitra as Nishanath’s nephew Bijoy, Moitree Banerjee as Nishanath’s wife Damayanti, Anushka Chakraborty as Bonolakshmi, Durbar Sharma as Bhujongo Dhar provided decent performances. The series lacks mystery but the execution was nearly perfect.
The mystery thriller Byomkesh O Pinjrapol stands among one of the finest series to be premiered on the Hoichoi platform and the credit goes to director Sudipto Roy & creative director Anirban Bhattacharya.
