Rajneeti (2023) Review: Story & Performances
The story of Rajneeti season 1 revolves around Rashi Banerjee (Ditipriya Roy), the daughter of renowned politician Rathin Banerjee (Kaushik Ganguly) from Rijpur. After a devastating accident, Rashi loses her memories and begins her journey of recovery with the help of Dr. Debojit (Aniruddha Gupta).
As she regains her memory, Rashi recognizes her father Rathin, her mother Mallika (Koneenica Banerjee), and her fiancé Saunak (Arjun Chakrabarty). However, she soon discovers several unknown facts that point to a conspiracy behind her accident. Will Rashi be able to unravel the mystery?
One of the strongest aspects of Rajneeti web series is its tight script writing, which gradually reveals the mystery in sync with the narrative flow, making it highly engaging. The storytelling by Sourav Chakraborty deserves appreciation, as does his commendable presentation of the lead actors. His collaboration as a co-writer with Utsav Mukherjee and Rudradeep Chanda should be applauded.
Ditipriya Roy delivers yet another exceptional performance in this Bengali web series Rajneeti, showcasing her talent once again, which we have seen in projects like Kolkata Chalantika, Aay Khuku Aay, Rudrabinar Obhishaap, Bodhon, and Dakghor. She effortlessly portrays the character of Rashi, making us believe in her struggle to uncover the truth.
Kaushik Ganguly impresses with his stellar performance, portraying a caring and concerned father, as well as a powerful politician, with great conviction. Aniruddha Gupta as Dr Debojit looks convincing.
Arjun Chakrabarty, in the role of Saunak, delivers exactly what is expected of him. His character plays a crucial role in Rajneeti Season 1, providing unwavering support to Rashi whenever she needs it and protecting her from any potential troubles.
Koneenica Banerjee as Mallika shows promise in the last two episodes, revealing the other side of her character, which adds further intrigue to the story. Although Shyamal Chakraborty had limited screen time in Season 1, we can hope for more insights into his character in Season 2.
Editor Amitava Dasgupta and Cinematographer Subhadeep Dey deserve praise for their contributions. The music and background scores by Amit Bose & Yash Gupta are decent. At times, the pace of the narrative slows down, and the chemistry between Ditipriya Roy and Arjun Chakrabarty could have received more focus.
Bengali web series Rajneeti Season 1 on Hoichoi is an engaging political thriller with brilliant storytelling by Sourav Chakraborty and outstanding performances by Kaushik Ganguly, Ditipriya Roy, Arjun Chakrabarty, Koneenica Banerjee, and Aniruddha Gupta.
