Bagha Jatin Movie Trailer:
The long-anticipated moment has finally arrived as Dev has unveiled the much-awaited trailer for his upcoming period drama, Bagha Jatin, directed by Arun Roy. This cinematic masterpiece is set to captivate audiences across India on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, scheduled for release on October 19, 2023.
Despite a relatively quiet promotion campaign for its Hindi release, the true litmus test for this film's performance on a Pan-Indian scale awaits us. Clocking in at nearly three minutes, the trailer masterfully portrays Dev as the legendary Indian independence activist, Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay. Mukhopadhyay, a figure the British Empire deeply feared, is portrayed as a hero who placed the nation's welfare before his own family's.
The trailer leaves no stone unturned, excelling in various aspects, including makeup, action sequences, and patriotism. Sounava Bose's dialogues stand out as particularly remarkable, while the cinematography by Gopi Bhagat, and the editing by Md. Kalam and the music & background score by Nilayan Chatterjee contribute to the film's overall visual and auditory brilliance. A special nod goes to Somnath Kundu for crafting Dev's appearance with such authenticity.
The trailer commences with a poignant moment, as Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay's (Dev) son earnestly requests him to recount the story of the tiger he killed, hoping to one day emulate his father and hunt such a formidable beast. In response, Jatindranath imparts a valuable lesson, asserting that taking the life of an animal is a sin.
However, when pressed on why he himself killed a tiger, he reflects that he made a grave mistake. This opening sets the stage for a portrayal of British colonial rule and the unwavering determination of Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay to liberate the country from the shackles of British oppression.
The trailer also introduces debutant Sreeja Dutta as Bagha Jatin's wife, Indubala, Sudipta Chakraborty as his elder sister, Samiul Alam as Kshudiram Bose, and Rohaan Bhattacharjee as Chittapriya Ray Chaudhuri, further enriching the ensemble cast.
Expectations for this film have reached a fever pitch, primarily due to Dev's transformation into a character that blurs the line between fiction and reality, making it nearly impossible to distinguish him from the real Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay.
This Durga Puja promises to be an exciting one for movie lovers, as it will see the simultaneous release of Srijit Mukherji's Dawshom Awbotaar, Koel Mallick's Jongole Mitin Mashi, and Raktabeej, starring Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty, and Victor Banerjee, all vying for the audience's attention in theatres apart from Arun Roy's Bagha Jatin.
The battle for the highest box-office collection of the year is sure to be intense, with last year's victor, Director Dhrubo Banerjee's Karnasubarnar Guptodhon, having secured the title of the highest-grossing Bengali film in 2022.
