Thalapathy 68: The film has been scheduled for a release on Tamil New Year

On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, AGS Entertainment unveiled the highly anticipated first glimpse of their forthcoming film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 68. This project is both written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, and it boasts Vijay in the lead role. Filming for the movie is already underway, and it is scheduled for release on April 14, 2024.

New addition Meenakshi Chaudhary, who is set to star alongside Mahesh Babu starring Guntur Kaaram, will take on the female lead role in this film. Siddhartha Nuni will be in charge of cinematography, while Venkat Raajen will handle the editing.

Notably, Prabhu Deva, who has had only one film released this year, "Bagheera," will play a significant role in "Thalapathy 68." The film also features a strong ensemble cast, including Jayaram, Prashanth, Sneha, Laila, Vaibhav, Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Yogi Babu, Aravind Akash, and Ajay Raj in pivotal roles.

Thalapathy 68 marks the 68th film in Superstar Vijay's illustrious career and is being produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh, and Kalpathi S. Suresh under the AGS Entertainment banner. Renowned music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja has been enlisted for the film's music composition, reuniting with Vijay for the second time since Pudhiya Geethai.

In terms of distribution, T-Series has secured the audio rights for the film across all Indian languages, while Netflix has acquired the streaming rights. Though there are speculations about the movie's theme, including time travel or artificial intelligence, no official confirmation regarding the storyline has been released.

Venkat Prabhu's sole directorial project for the year was "Custody," featuring Naga Chaitanya. "Thalapathy 68" marks the second collaboration between AGS Entertainment and Vijay, following the success of "Bigil."

In the same year, Vijay had two releases, Varisu and Leo. While the former performed decently at the box office, the latter made a significant impact in terms of box office success.
