Salaar Part 1 Ceasefire (2023) Movie Review: Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s Maiden Collaboration is a Blockbuster
Director Prashanth Neel's Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films and was released in theaters on 22nd December 2023, clashing with Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki. Writer-director Prashanth Neel’s maiden collaboration with Prabhas bears many similarities to the director’s debut film, Ugramm, at the plot level.
The story revolves around the fictional city-state of Khansaar, where Vardha Raja Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran), the son of Prince Raja Mannar (Jagapathi Babu), is the best friend of a tribesman named Deva (Prabhas). Since childhood, Deva has done everything and goes any distance if he finds Vardha in danger, assuring that Vardha gets everything he wants.
Aadhya Krishnakanth (Shruti Haasan), the daughter of business tycoon Krishnakanth (Ravi Bhat), suddenly decides to return to India from New York. Krishnakanth's old enemies plan to kidnap her, but Krishnakanth informs Bilal (Mime Gopi) to send the news to Deva for Aadhya's safety. Will Deva be able to save Aadhya? How did Deva and Vardha become two rivals?
Two major strengths of writer-director Prashanth Neel are the impactful build-up of the protagonist's character and understanding of the demands of the mass audience. We have witnessed this in KGF Chapter 1 and KGF Chapter 2, where he presented Yash in a larger-than-life character, making the audiences go crazy for Yash’s character, Rocky.
He repeats the same formula in this action thriller Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, which is a one-man show of Prabhas. Prabhas has the minimum number of dialogues among all the lead characters in this film, yet Prashanth Neel has built a world around the most powerful and ruthless character of the film, Deva, aka Devaratha Shouryangaa Raisaar, aka Salaar.
Prithviraj Sukumaran as Vardha Raja Mannar did not get much scope in the first half, but he has done a decent job in the second half. Jagapathi Babu as Prince Raja Mannar has a short but impactful screen presence. Shruti Haasan as Aadhya Krishnakanth had nothing much in the script to showcase her potential.
Easwari Rao as Deva’s mother looked convincing. Bobby Simha as Bhaarava and Sriya Reddy as Radha Rama Mannar provided decent contributions. Ravi Basrur’s background score is top-notch. The dialogues by Sandeep Reddy Bandla, Hanumaan Choudary, and Dr. Suri are not much effective.
Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire is a worth-watching action thriller with powerful storytelling by Prashanth Neel, Prabhas’s one-man show, Ravi Basrur’s background score, and high-octane action sequences. Salaar: Part 2 - Shouryaanga Parvam will delve into the rivalry between Deva and Vardha Raja Mannar. The film has crossed Rs 500 crores worldwide at the box office within one week of its release.
Salaar Part 1 OTT Release Date:
The film starter streaming on Netflix on 20th January 2024.
