Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo (2024) Web Series Review:
Chandrasish Ray directed the web series Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo, featuring Tota Roychowdhury and Mimi Chakraborty in lead roles, which premiered on Hoichoi this week.
The storyline draws inspiration from the death case of Police Officer Bapi Sen. The series unfolds the incident where IC Tapas Saha (Anindya Pulak) was assaulted on the night of December 31. He tried to intervene when four policemen were molesting a girl, resulting in his death a few days later.
Public Prosecutor Pritha Roy (Mimi Chakraborty) faces a challenging task against defense lawyer Joyraj Singha (Tota Roychowdhury), known for his high success rate in winning cases. The central question remains: Can Pritha triumph over Joyraj Singha in court and unveil the truth of that night?
Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo showcases compelling performances from both Tota Roychowdhury and Mimi Chakraborty, who share the screen for the first time, receiving almost equal screen time.
In her OTT debut, Mimi Chakraborty takes on the challenging role of Lawyer Pritha Roy and delivers a brilliant portrayal. Notably, she excels in two key scenes: one during her meeting with her fiancé Anargha and his parents at a restaurant, along with Pritha's parents, and the other where she exposes evidence tampering at the court. Tota Roychowdhury, a powerhouse of acting, steals the show as Joyraj Singha, particularly impressing in the courtroom scenes.
Supporting cast members, including Debesh Chattopadhyay as Pritha's boss Ajay Chatterjee, Prantik Banerjee as Mridul Chatterjee, and Anujoy Chattopadhyay as Investigating officer Arnab, contribute decently with their performances. Anindya Pulak, portraying Tapas Saha had a limited impact on the script.
Director Chandrasish Ray deserves credit for effectively utilizing Tota Roychowdhury and Mimi Chakraborty. The background score by Shibasish Banerjee is impressive, while editor Subhajit Singha and cinematographer Appu Prabhakar deliver a commendable job.
While the narrative begins well, the pacing slows in the middle, with the last two episodes, featuring twists, being the most engaging in the series. Introducing a backstory of Tapas Saha with his friends Arnab, Nikhilesh, and Pradip regarding the events mentioned in court would have added depth to the storyline.
In conclusion, Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo offers two powerful performances and partly engaging courtroom scenes, making it a notable addition to the web series landscape.
