On January 12, 2024, Vyjayanthi Movies, known for producing films like Maharshi, Sita Ramam, Mahanati, and Chirutha, confirmed the release date of their upcoming sci-fi film, Kalki 2898 AD. The movie, produced by C. Ashwini Dutt and directed by Nag Ashwin, features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.

Since the announcement, fans have eagerly awaited the film, especially to witness Prabhas in a distinct role as Kalki. Given that Kalki is the tenth and final avatar of God Vishnu, the movie is expected to have some mythological connections. In the film, Amitabh Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, and Kamal Haasan takes on the role of Kali.

Kalki 2898 AD marks Nag Ashwin's fourth directorial venture, following Yevade Subramanyam, Mahanati, and Pitta Kathalu. It also marks his first collaboration with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. Disha Patani, Pasupathy, and Saswata Chatterjee play crucial roles in the film.

The teaser for Kalki 2898 AD was unveiled on July 21, 2023, showcasing Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in a futuristic world shrouded in darkness. The trailer is set to be released in April 2024.

It's noteworthy to see Prabhas exploring experimental roles after the success of Baahubali: The Beginning. His recent works include Radhe Shyam, Salaar Part 1 Ceasefire, and Adipurush, and he is set to appear in Animal fame director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and Pakka Commercial director Maruthi's Raja Deluxe. Despite the mixed performance of Radhe Shyam and Adipurush at the box office, his latest action thriller Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire has been a blockbuster.

Amitabh Bachchan, last seen in Ganapath Part 1, is also slated for upcoming films like The Umesh Chronicles, Butterfly, and Vettaiyan. Deepika Padukone's recent appearance was in the action thriller Jawan, and she is set to feature in upcoming films like Fighter with Hrithik Roshan and Singham Again with Ajay Devgn.

Kamal Haasan delivered a blockbuster with Vikram in 2022 and has upcoming projects like Indian 2, Thug Life, and KH II III VIII. Disha Patani, last seen in Ek Villain Returns, is lined up for future releases such as Yodha with Sidharth Malhotra, Kanguva with Suriya, and the multi-starrer Welcome To The Jungle.

Saswata Chatterjee, known for solid performances in The Night Manager and Abar Proloy, plays an important role in this film. Asuran fame Pasupathy is also set to play a crucial role in the movie.
