Pariah (2024) Bengali Movie Trailer Review: Tathagata Mukherjee & Vikram Chatterjee’s Maiden Collaboration
On January 23, 2024, actor Vikram Chatterjee unveiled the trailer for his upcoming action thriller, Pariah. Directed by Tathagata Mukherjee, the film features Vikram Chatterjee, Soumya Mukherjee, and Angana Roy in lead roles, with supporting cast members including Sreelekha Mitra, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Tapati Munsi, Debashish Roy, Loknath Dey, Debaprasad Halder, Bimal Giri, and Sahir Raj.
Produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Avinaba Ghosh under the banners of Pramod Films and Dream On Sale, Pariah is set to hit theaters on February 9, 2024.
The 3-minute trailer opens with an old lady searching for her dog, Bhulu, amidst a group of street dogs. Meanwhile, Vikram Chatterjee is portrayed silently sitting in a hotel, not engaging with others. Some refer to him as a local goon, while others call him Ravaan.
The trailer unfolds with Vikram Chatterjee's quest to find the missing dog, Soumya Mukherjee's character stating, "In this world, all creatures either survive or become meat," and Sreelekha Mitra highlighting the nominal value of a dog at Rs 50. A police officer mentions their inability to take legal action for anything not exceeding Rs 50. Angana Roy is seen pleading for the safe return of her dogs.
Vikram Chatterjee's performance in the trailer is captivating, and Soumya Mukherjee, known for Prem Tame and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, plays the antagonist. The anticipated face-off between Vikram Chatterjee and Soumya Mukherjee adds an exciting dimension to the film.
The dialogue, "Their paws don't know how to vote but they know how to love," is commendable, and the background score by Ranajoy Bhattacharjee enhances the trailer's impact.
Despite the recent box office failures of Bengali commercial films like Manush Child of Destiny and Sentimentaal, if Tathagata Mukherjee executes Pariah well, it has the potential to become the first commercially successful Bengali film of 2024.
Pariah marks the first collaboration between Tathagata Mukherjee and Vikram Chatterjee. The director himself has penned the story, with screenplay and dialogues supported by Antara Banerjee. Cinematography is handled by Uttaran De, while Amir Mondal takes on the film editing role.
Tathagata Mukherjee's previous directorial venture, Bhotbhoti, was released in 2022. Vikram Chatterjee, last seen in "Shohorer Ushnotomo Din E" last year, is set to feature in upcoming films such as Memory X, Durgapur Junction, Omorshongi, and Ke Prothom Kache Esechhi.
