Punorjonmo (2021) Drama Review: Afran Nisho as Rafsan Haque is Outstanding

Vicky Zahed's directorial thriller Punorjonmo, starring Afran Nisho and Mehazabien Chowdhury, premiered on Channel I Prime on 25th July 2021. The story begins with Neela Haque (Mehazabien Chowdhury), who has wounds on her whole body and is brought to the police station by a truck driver.

She had been missing for the last 3 years and informs the police officer, OC Harun (Mukul Siraj), that she was tortured physically and mentally by her kidnappers, who are also associated with women trafficking. She repeatedly tells the police officer to bring Rafsan there.

Rafsan Haque (Afran Nisho), a professional cook, arrives at the police station with his sister Barsha (Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed). They, along with their driver Nuru (Shahed Ali), bring Neela to their house. After initial conversations, Barsha suspects that the woman who has arrived at their house is not her sister-in-law, Neela. On the other hand, OC Harun also starts suspecting that Neela is hiding something from them. Why did Neela come back after 3 years?

Vicky Zahed’s writing and brilliant execution are praiseworthy. He develops the mystery part really well and keeps us engaged throughout the drama with his excellent writing. I will definitely say that the climax was a bit disappointing. The way the story was progressing, it deserved a far better climax.

Afran Nisho as Rafsan Haque delivers one of the finest performances of his career. From the first scene where Rafsan meets Neela, his expression and body language are impressive. Afran Nisho’s acting in the emotional scene where Neela talks about the phase she went through deserves a special mention.

Mehazabien Chowdhury as Neela Haque/Rokeya looks mostly convincing. You will also enjoy the scenes between Afran Nisho and Mehazabien Chowdhury. Another scene that deserves a mention is the one where Neela forgets her eye lens after bathing and retrieves it from the room in the presence of Rafsan.

Mukul Siraj as OC Harun, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed as Barsha, and Shahed Ali as Nuru provide good performances. Mahamud Hayet Arpon’s music composition and background score perfectly complement the thrilling narrative. Sumon Hossain’s cinematography and Alvira Tasnim’s art direction deserve a mention too.

Director Vicky Zahed’s mystery thriller Punorjonmo is worth watching because of Afran Nisho and Mehazabien Chowdhury’s impressive performances and Vicky Zahed’s top-notch storytelling. The popularity among audiences for this drama brought the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th installments.
