Despite the success of his recent films like Pradhan, Projapoti, Tonic, Bagha Jatin, Byomkesh O Durgo Rahasya, Kacher Manush, and Kishmish, many fans were eagerly awaiting Superstar Dev’s return to the mainstream commercial scene. Now, their wait is finally over.
The official teaser of Dev’s upcoming action entertainer Khadaan has been released today by the production houses Dev Entertainment Ventures and Surinder Films, who have jointly produced the film. Directed by Soojit Dutta (Rino), the film stars Superstar Dev as Shyam Mahato in the lead role.
The 1-minute-18-second teaser showcases Dev in a never-before-seen avatar, delivering powerful dialogues and performing intense action sequences. Director Soojit Dutta deserves full credit for presenting Dev in this dynamic new light. The final scene, where Dev lights a bidi with the flame from a metal rod, is a whistle-worthy moment, reminiscent of his iconic scene from the fan-favorite Khokababu song in the movie Sedin Dekha Hoyechilo.
The two show-stopping dialogues of this teaser are: "Family liye byasto boley ki vabechis action ta vule gechi?" and "Aaj e jomin Khadaan hobek na to Shoshan". The background score brilliantly complements Dev's swagger as he wields an axe with authority. The teaser's editing, handled by Dipayan Roy, is spot on, and the action choreography looks outstanding.
Set against the backdrop of coal mines, Khadaan explores the friendship between two characters portrayed by Dev and Jisshu U Sengupta. The film also features Barkha Bisht, Idhika Paul, Anirban Chakrabarti, and Sneha Bose in supporting roles. It is set to hit theatres on December 20, 2024, just in time for the Christmas season.
The story is penned by Soojit Dutta, with Biswaroop Biswas contributing to the screenplay and dialogues alongside Soojit Dutta. Rathijit Bhattacharya, Savvy, and Nilayan Chatterjee are in charge of the music. Dev is not only starring in the film but also serving as its creative director. Shailesh Awasthi handles cinematography, while MD Kalam is responsible for editing.
It’s no secret that mainstream Bengali commercial films have struggled at the box office in recent years. Superstar Jeet has been one of the few who continued to champion this genre in the Bengali film industry. Films like Raavan and Chengiz starring Jeet, along with Pariah Vol 1 featuring Vikram Chatterjee, and Mirza Part 1 starring Ankush, have given hope that the tide might be turning.
Khadaan has all the ingredients to bring mass audiences back to theatres, and we’re hopeful it will succeed. Even before its release, the teaser has received high praise. Director Srijit Mukherji, who is helming Dev's other upcoming film Tekka, has already reviewed the teaser and confirmed that Khadaan is the perfect film for Dev’s return to the mainstream.
