Nowadays, almost every major production house owns an OTT platform. Bengal's leading platforms include SVF Entertainment's Hoichoi, Surinder Films' Addatimes, Angel Television Private Limited's Klikk, and Camellia Productions Private Limited's Fridaay.
There was a time when even 2-3 years after a Bengali film's theatrical release, it wouldn't appear on OTT platforms. However, the scenario has changed drastically. Nowadays, many films are available on OTT platforms within six months of their theatrical release.
On 27th August 2024, the new OTT platform Fridaay unveiled the trailer of Oti Uttam, a romantic drama directed by Srijit Mukherji. The film stars Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Anindya Sengupta, Roshni Bhattacharya, Gourab Chatterjee, Laboni Sarkar, and Subhasish Mukherjee.
Oti Uttam was released in theatres on 22nd March 2024 and will premiere on Fridaay on 30th August 2024. The film marked the return of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to the big screen through the use of VFX and AI.
While Srijit Mukherji’s attempt to draw nostalgic Bengali audiences to the theatres was appreciated, the film's VFX was a bit disappointing. Despite this, the film had a decent box office run, ranking fifth behind Ajogya, Eta Amader Golpo, Boomerang, and Nayan Rahasya.
