Vikramaditya Motwane, Satyanshu Singh, Daniel Sharma, Arkesh Ajay, Rohin Raveendran Nair, Ambiecka Pandit directorial crime drama thriller series Black Warrant premiered on 10 January 2025 on Netflix.
The series stars Zahan Kapoor, Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur in the lead roles & Sidhant Gupta, Joy Sengupta, Tota Roy Choudhury, Rajendra Gupta, Mir Sarwar, Rajshri Deshpande in supporting roles.
Adapted from Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury, the series tells the story of Sunil Kumar Gupta (Zahan Kapoor), a jailer in Tihar prison.
Faced with corruption and scepticism from his boss Rajesh Tomar (Rahul Bhat) and volatile colleague Vipin Dahiya (Anurag Thakur), Sunil grapples with the choice to reform the system or abandon his ideals.
In his role as Sunil Kumar Gupta, Zahan Kapoor delivers an absorbing performance, capturing the character’s innocence and his growing resolve amid testing circumstances.
His portrayal feels natural, making the ASP’s trials and transformations engaging and relatable. As Rajesh Tomar, Rahul Bhat is in top form, embodying the role of a corrupt yet calculated superior with finesse.
His measured portrayal captures the character’s gritty pragmatism, adding depth to the story’s exploration of conflicting ideologies. Paramvir Singh Cheema brings depth to the role of Shivraj Singh Mangat, skillfully portraying his balance of kindness and authority.
Sidhant Gupta, on the other hand, leaves a powerful impression as the sophisticated and chilling Charles Sobhraj. Anurag Thakur is remarkable as Vipin Dahiya, effortlessly bringing the character’s raw, unpolished demeanor to life with an authentic touch of Haryanvi wit and mannerisms.
With precision and attention to detail, Vikramaditya Motwane and his team craft a coherent, character-driven narrative in Black Warrant. Though the pace lags in parts, its authenticity and standout performances make it worth watching.
