The film, starring Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Meenakshi Sheshadri in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 10th February 1989. The film marked the directorial debut of Sibte Hassan Rizvi.
Shekhar Kapur was responsible for directing the film for the most part, but he left midway. His initial plan was to have Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Sibte Hasan Rizvi subsequently took charge and completed the production.
