Kaushik Ganguly's written and directed film Nagarkirtan completed 6 years. The film was produced by Sani Ghose Ray under the banner of Acropoliis Entertainment. The film, starring Riddhi Sen and Ritwick Chakraborty in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 15th February 2019.
At the 65th National Film Awards, the film received four honors, including the Special Jury Award (Feature Film), Best Actor for Riddhi Sen, Best Costume Design for Gobinda Mandal, and Best Make-up Artist for Ram Rajak.
This film centers on Parimal (Riddhi Sen), a trans woman from rural Bengal, and Madhu (Ritwick Chakraborty), a flute player from Nabadwip, who fall in love and initially decide to elope. However, they later reconsider, leaving the ultimate fate of their love story to be discovered in the film.
Nagarkirtan marked the 18th directorial venture of Kaushik Ganguly. He made his directorial debut in 2004 with the film Waarish starring Debashree Roy, Churni Ganguly, and Sabyasachi Chakraborty.
