The film portrays Neerja Bhanot’s heroism during the 1986 Pan Am Flight 73 hijacking in Karachi. By warning the pilots, she prevented takeoff and saved lives, ultimately sacrificing herself. 359 of the 379 on board survived.

Neerja marked Ram Madhvani's 2nd directorial venture. He made his directorial debut in 2002 with the film Let’s Talk starring Boman Irani, Maia Katrak, and Anahita Oberoi.
Mitesh Mirchandani handled the Cinematography, Vishal Khurana composed the music, and Monisha R. Baldawa edited this film marking their maiden collaboration with director Ram Madhvani.
