Khakee The Bengal Chapter Review: Jeet, Saswata Chatterjee,Ritwik Bhowmik, Prosenjit Chatterjee Shine in This Gripping Thriller

Marking another stellar creation by Neeraj Pandey, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter—a riveting period political crime thriller—premiered on Netflix on 20 March 2025. The series stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, Saswata Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, Chitrangada Singh, and Ritwik Bhowmik in the lead roles, marking the Hindi web series debut of Bengali Superstar Jeet.

This marks the first time Bengali superstars Jeet and Prosenjit Chatterjee share screen space, after Jeet’s 22-year journey in the industry and Prosenjit Chatterjee’s over 41-year career. After don Shankar Baruah aka Bagha’s (Saswata Chatterjee) men, Sagor (Ritwik Bhowmik) and Ranjit (Aadil Zafar Khan), murder IPS Saptarshi Sinha (Parambrata Chatterjee), the government assigns Arjun Maitra (Jeet) to lead the SIT.

With political backing from Barun Roy (Prosenjit Chatterjee), Maitra hunts down Bagha, who is soon found dead. was Bagha the true villain, or just another pawn?

One of the major strengths of Khakee: The Bengal Chapter lies in its brilliantly written characters. Jeet Gannguli’s compositions and Sanjoy Chowdhury’s background score elevate the series further. The title song seamlessly blend with the narrative, while the gripping background music intensifies key moments, adding depth to the storytelling.

Superstar Jeet, in his Hindi web series debut, gets a well-crafted role and delivers a stellar performance. From raw, realistic fight sequences to his intense confrontations with criminals, he embodies the perfect mix of grit and integrity. Ignoring his corrupt superiors and staying true to his duty, Jeet is outstanding throughout.

Ritwik Bhowmik as Sagor Talukdar, commands attention with a standout performance, bringing depth and intensity to every frame. His portrayal seamlessly shifts between raw emotions and brutal ruthlessness, proving his incredible range.

His journey from the tender musician in Bandish Bandits to the fierce gangster in Khakee 2 will leave you in awe. Saswata Chatterjee shines as Shankar Baruah a.k.a. Bagha, delivering a brilliant performance as the ruthless gangster.

Prosenjit Chatterjee, as the corrupt politician Barun Roy, gets a well-written character and brings his vast experience to the role. His ability to switch personas within seconds is nothing short of masterful.

Chitrangada Singh shines as Nibedita Basak, the resolute Leader of Opposition, in one of her career’s most finely crafted roles. She delivers a riveting performance, leaving us eager to see her in more such challenging characters in the future.

Aadil Zafar Khan as Ranjit Thakur may seem understated at first, but his character arc and performance take an unexpected turn, leaving you pleasantly surprised by the end. Aakanksha Singh as SIT Officer Aratrika Bhowmick, Parambrata Chatterjee as IPS Saptarshi Sinha,

Subhasish Mukherjee as Chief Minister Shirshendu Chatterjee, Pooja Chopra as Khushi Maitra, and Mahaakshay Chakraborty as SIT Officer Himel Majumder deliver convincing performances, adding depth and intrigue to the series.

The on-screen chemistry between Sagor and Ranjit is one of the series' major highlights, adding depth to their dynamic. Equally impressive is the emotional bond between Sagor and his wife Manjula (Shruti Das), making their moments stand out.

The intense face-offs—Jeet vs. Ritwik Bhowmik and Jeet vs. Prosenjit Chatterjee—elevate the series, delivering some of its most thrilling moments. Despite strong performances, the series suffers from a weak screenplay, a slow-paced opening, and editing that could have been tighter.

The web series pays tribute to Prosenjit Chatterjee, Kishore Kumar, and Bappi Lahiri through the song Chirodini Tumi Je Amar from Amar Sangee, along with a special homage to Amitabh Bachchan in a scene where Sagor sees him on TV and gets an idea of what to do next.Khakee The Bengal Chapter Review
