The A.R. Murugadoss-directed action thriller Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal was released in theatres on March 30, 2025, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Eid.
Sanjay Rajkot (Salman Khan), aka "Sikandar," clashes with Minister Rakesh Pradhan's (Sathyaraj) son (Prateik Babbar), triggering a vendetta. When his wife Saisri (Rashmika Mandanna) dies in a bomb blast, he tracks down the recipients of her donated organs, uncovering hidden injustices. Can Sanjay rewrite their fates?
Sikandar shines in two aspects: Salman Khan's grand entry scene, which is meticulously designed for maximum impact, and the thrilling action sequences that are brilliantly choreographed, offering moments of sheer cinematic spectacle.
The film's core theme holds promise, but its screenplay ranks among the weakest in Salman Khan's recent outings. The narrative lacks depth, with underdeveloped plot points that fail to create a compelling cinematic experience
The on-screen chemistry between Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna feels lackluster, failing to leave any lasting impression. Due to inadequate character development, the emotional weight of the tragedy falls flat, making it difficult for the audience to connect with the characters or feel their pain.
The hero-villain clash between Salman Khan and Sathyaraj falls flat, failing to generate any real tension. Despite Sathyaraj's caliber as an actor, his antagonist lacks depth and presence due to weak character writing and an inadequate number of meaningful confrontations with the hero.
The result is an uninspired conflict that never reaches its full potential. It's disappointing to see an actor of Sharman Joshi’s caliber take on a character that is poorly written and holds no significance in the script.
Given his proven talent in films like 3 Idiots, Rang De Basanti, and Golmaal, it’s evident that with the right material, he can deliver exceptional performances. Unfortunately, this role lacks depth, offering him little to work with.
Salman Khan makes a strong impression in his entry scene, but his energy noticeably dips as the film progresses. His fitness appears to be a concern, and while the action sequences are well-choreographed, his execution lacks the sharpness and conviction needed to elevate them.
Sikandar redefines the concept of the "Alpha Male," a term that gained widespread popularity following the release of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and became a buzzword on social media.
However, Salman Khan’s dialogue in Sikandar offers a refreshing perspective: an alpha male isn’t someone who dominates or controls his family but rather someone who understands, unites, and leads with love and kindness.
